Kids First kindergarten in Hokitika commissioned me to weave a wall hanging in harakeke (NZ flax) to reflect what the staff thought were the key aspects of their teaching.
The brief was for a circular piece 60cm in diameter, in blues and greens incorporating the words:
- manaakitanga
- mana tiaki
- passionate
- learner
- creative
- collaborative
These words were stitched with thin strips of harakeke dyed green onto narrow bands of woven natural harakeke which radiate from the centre of the disc.
