Te Karaka Lodge commission – March 2023
I was engaged by FURNZ – Interior Design and Procurement Specialists – to create woven harakeke artworks for a new luxury lodge being built on Te Karaka Station near Port Waikako. This was my largest commission to date consisting of 20 artworks; a circular piece for each of the bedrooms and more rectangular sculptural works for the rest of the lodge. The time frame was tight but I managed to meet it.
Here are the artworks, all handwoven from harakeke (NZ flax – phormium tenax). Some are dyed, some are natural and some are a combination.
Te Karaka Lodge opened in September and here are some images of some of the works in situ. (shared with permission from Te Karaka Lodge)
