HORIZON – Art @ the Library, Hokitika

Horizon was the theme of WAI (Westland Arts inc) members’ exhibition for Art @ the Library in Hokitika in Dec/Jan 2025

We were all given a 20cm x 20cm canvas on which to produce an artwork. I took two and found it quite challenging to work on such a small scale and with the physical restrictions.  In the end I decided to make a batch of harakeke paper to cover the canvas before I began. Check out the display of 24 canvases if you are in Hokitika over the summer.

Seaweedscape

Seaweedscape is a collage of seaweed on handmade harakeke paper. The seaweed was collected while walking on Hokitika beach in early December (the first time I had seen any for a long time).

High Country

High Country is created with dried tubes of harakeke twined together with muka (fibre from harakeke) on handmade harakeke paper. The tubes are natural colour; the muka is dyed with plants.
