Edge of the World exhibition Waikawa Hall, Catlins Area in Southland from 21 February to 2 March 2025.
Janice Broad and team from the Southern District Arts Trust run an annual art exhibition annual in the Waikawa Hall, in the Catlins, Southland. Each time they invite two artists from outside of the area to exhibit and give an artist talk at a dinner which is open to the public. This year I was lucky enough to be one of the guest artists along with Bernadette Ballantyne, an amazing pastel artist, from Matamata.
On arrival Thursday afternoon, I found that the entire stage area was available for me to set up my work. I was very impressed with the team setting up the hall; they operate like a well-oiled machine and have obviously done this many times before.
The hall was transformed by the exhibition opening on the Friday evening, 21 February. The range of works was impressive. As guest artists, Bernadette and I had to pick the winners for a couple of awards – not an easy job.
Then the following evening, at a dinner at the Niagara Café, we both gave presentations about our work.
The hospitality provided for my husband Rob and me, by Janice and the team was amazing – travel, accommodation, meals and a welcome goodies pack. Thank you so much. I met lots of people and to cap it off had good sales. Overall participating in this exhibition was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to any other artist who gets an invitation.
